Creativity Exercise

1. Select an everyday device/tool.2. Create a new device/tool that performs the same function as the original device/tool, but in a
completely different way.
1. Show sketches or notes that incorporate all of the SCAMPER methods in your brainstorming
activities for your solution on a single sheet of poster paper. Staple sketches to the poster
paper if you want.
2. Explain why you selected the method you did.
3. Build a model of your innovation
4. Create a 30 second talking head commercial selling your product (use the model)
i. Why is it good
ii. Why is it better than the original (Spin doctor if you have to.)
iii. Why should people buy it.
3. Grading Rubric
1. Creative departure from the original
2. SCAMPER covered completely; submit thru Blackboard with sketches; show ideas for each
letter with sketches
3. Build a model of your innovation
4. 30 second commercial using your model answers the questions (make sure your name,
course and section # show on the opening screen)
Grading
• • 3a, 3b, 3c: 50 points each; 3d, 100 points (NOTE: -50% of 30 second infomercial grade for not +/- 5 seconds)
• • Each graded 50-40-25-0. 50= well done; 40=OK, too many questions unanswered, 25=poor, not thorough, professional or shows much effort, 0=not done or did not address the requirement.
